At the corner of Kirkland Avenue and North Park Row stands Clinton Fire House #1, constructed in 1921.
The site was originally occupied by a general store built in 1832 by Amaziah Stebbins. In 1840, he sold the store to Peter Fake, and it became known as Fake’s Store. Peter Fake operated the business until 1876, when he turned it over to his son, Augustus.
Following Augustus’ death in 1895, the property changed hands several times before the building was demolished in 1921 to make way for the new firehouse.
